The Medicine of a Phone Call

Ron Reynolds’ middle name should be “empathy.”
Ron recently learned that his old friend, Ron McDougall was having a hard time at the end of his life. So Ron called him just to connect and say, “We care.”
After the call, Reynolds got a note from McDougall,
Dear Ron and Fran,
It was so nice of you to give me a call. A wonderful surprise. As I age, I have come to realize even more clearly how much friendship means. I have three college friends with whom I keep close contact. I reflect on Ralph, and Elaine, and Jimmy. We are all going through various stages the process. What a tragedy. It shows just how fragile our life on Earth really is. It can get lonely.
So a familiar voice is a new “medicine” for the day. I miss seeing you two – you are such quality people.
