To Be A Witness

To Be A Witness

Sallie Olsen and I have known each other since our days in grad school at Saybrook University in the mid-70s. Her story about going from “straight nursing” to psych nursing to running a therapy practice is inspirational. Here we talk about feminist therapy, career change, mentor Dr. Sadja Greenwood, the pressure of child rearing with your business partner, and other topics. I think you’ll enjoy getting to know Sallie.

I have fond memories of Tommy’s Joynt in the city. My father ALWAYS wanted to go there if we were anywhere nearby. And he had fond memories of it from his own younger days.

I liked Sally’s description of her role in psych nursing as being a “witness.” It was the privilege of my career in the same field as well. To listen to another’s story and simply be with them as witness and in the process to enable them to gain more clarity.
