Favorite Dorothy Parker poem. Very deep. Lots of insight about the human condition:
“I like to have one martini,
two at the very most.
After three I’m under the table,
after four I’m under my host.”
Remembering Our Elders
In the past few months, I’ve lost two very dear friends, Tim Garthwaite and Jerry Sello. Both had serious memory problems at the end. Shortly before they died, I sat down with them and my iPhone recorder. I asked them to talk about their lives. It was a joy for me and fun for them. It also left their families and friends with a treasured moment in time when things are remembered so gloriously. These interviews have been featured in my blog before, but after Jerry’s death a few weeks ago, I was reflecting on their lives and our friendships over the decades. I feel so lucky to have been able to capture them in a reflective moment. Thought you might want to hear them again – or, maybe for the first time.
Message: Grab that recorder, sit down in a private quiet place and interview your elders. They will want to talk, and their families will be grateful to have the interview. This is doing good work!

Weeding on Labor Day weekend. About to toss out this big, ugly weed.
Looking Closer
Beauty is all around us. Just look.
Enjoyed your iPhone photos. I’m trying to learn to do more than point and shoot with mine thanks to a librarian at my next door library . Someone made an entire movie on an iPhone but I forget the details. You’re very lucky that it’s comfortable enough for you to go outside and weed.
It was great to hear Jerry’s voice again and to hear her tender story of the boy she helped. The photo of the sunrise above the clouds is beautiful.
beautiful, rick….time giveth and taketh…all good, love those close ups of Mother Nature’s easy cosmic elegance….
