Three of My Photos in
The Coastal Arts League Show
Three of my all-time favorite images were selected to be in the upcoming Coastal Arts League show in Half Moon Bay.
The show opens this coming Saturday, June 18 with refreshments and a live band and goes from 1:00 – 4:00. Please stop by to see all this fabulous work. Gallery address: 300 Main St. Half Moon Bay. There are a hundred works by fifty artists. Unfortunately, I can’t be there since I am attending a memorial for my dear friend Tim Garthwaite. But two of my photography friends, Harlan Crowder and Gabi Rondell will be there and would love to meet you.
Here are the images that were selected:
Janis Joplin, Golden Gate Park, October 1966
Unhappy jazz fan with her father, Monterey Jazz Festival
Tim Garthwaite kayaking on a calm summer
morning on Echo Lake
If you can’t make the opening, the show will be up until July 23. Admission is free.
Speaking of Photography…
Two of My Recent Favorites
Last week I went to photograph the Americas Sailing Yacht at Oracle headquarters in Redwood City. Turns out the real show was the sky and solid window architecture.
One early morning recently, a large succulent caught the morning sun. Turning it black and white made all the difference.
congratulations Rick! The Janis Joplin picture is a beauty. Taken, I believe, before the Monterey Pop Festival and before she became a cultural phenomenon. We get to “see” her in this picture before the glow of fame changed everything.
Unfortunately I am out of the area until the end of the month I will miss the celebration. Enjoy!!
Morning on Echo Lake. A beauty.
Thanks for sharing these photos, they’re stunning. Can’t be there but I’m glad you get to be part of the exhibition. Such good work.
As always, I appreciate your thought provoking words and art.
I have always loved Janis and have had the opportunity to see her live at a number of concerts. Your photo personifies the essence of Janis, Her strengths and her vulnerabilities and passion.
These are fabulous Rick,I am going to make an effort to be there, will miss seeing you, condolences for your long friend Tim ✨
Great photos, Rick,
Beautiful photos! I love the art in photos. Oh, reminds me—I have a book for you!
Rick, you definitely earn that title of “Community Based Photographer”!
The black and whites are amazing, and the color on Tim’s photo is awesome!
