Hillside School, Berkeley, CA
This magnificent Tudor-style school was built in 1925 (Walter Ratcliff, architect), and closed in 1983 due to declining enrollment and earthquake danger. In 2018 it was purchased by Sam Seppala as his personal residence and art studios for the community. Sam is bringing the school back to its original glory. I took these photos at a recent open house.
I graduated from Hillside in 1951. I was thrilled to see the old school returning to its original glory. There were lots of gray-haired Hillside graduates who took the tour with me.
