Photos and Art Deco of the 1930s

Triptych

I’ve been fooling around with photos in a three panel piece called a “triptych.” Some of my favorites,

Mid-1930s Design

We are remodeling the front of our 1934 Spanish-style house. Adding a porch and rebuilding crumbling front stairs. In the process I  rediscovered lights, door, tile, and wood touches that are so 1930s Art Deco. Examples,

The Bathroom

Door Hardware

Floor Design

Lighting Defusers

All of this reminded me of my love of the design of 1930s cars. For example, my 1936 Ford Sedan and several of the beauties in the private Packard car collection in Novato.

Packards

Whether cars, light fixtures or doorknobs there is something about the sensuous Art Deco look of the ’30s that is very appealing to me.

Stay tuned for photos of our front porch project.

Great photo essay, Rick. Art Deco : Iwonder if AD has a unique personal appeal for its creator; it all has very individual styles. This is also to say, “I speak from deep ignorance about “Art”! Thanks!

I liked this Triptych theme with photos – the many ways you can look differently at photos you’ve seen. Loved the bathroom pics and door nobs etc and the old cars… overall thoroughly enjoyed this one. Can’t wait for latest update on house!
